SUBJECT: INCLEMENT WEATHER

SOURCE: Policy Standards, Section H, Utilization of Staff/Staffing in Patient Care Areas

INPATIENT:

During inclement weather, the Clinical Program's Nursing Department is charged with the responsibility for patient care at University of Arkansas for Medical Science and Outpatient Clinics. Therefore, the following policy applies:

1.      By virtue of our commitment to patient care, all employees are considered essential.

2.      Employees scheduled for sponsored programs in staff education should report to their respective clinical areas.

3.      No Holiday or Vacation days are given, unless previously scheduled or the employee is requested to stay home by a nursing administrator.

4.      Any employee who calls in sick  including  those using FMLA  must bring a doctor's excuse from an appropriate physician before returning to work; failure to do so will result in being given Absent Time.

5.      Transportation to or from work is not provided.

6.      If the unit is adequately staffed, approval of early departure will be at the discretion of the nursing administrator on duty for inpatient units or Clinic Manager for outpatient areas.

7.      Late arrivals will conform to campus policy.

8.      Sleeping arrangements, in some instances, may be made by the Nursing Office.

9.      UAMS shuttle does not operate during inclement weather.  Employee parking deck is open for employee parking during inclement weather.
