SUBJECT: OVERTIME

SOURCE: Policy Standards, Section H, Utilization of Staff/Staffing on Inpatient Nursing Units

INPATIENT:

Overtime is paid in accordance with UAMS Administrative Guide 4.2.01.

  1. All OVERTIME requires approval by the, Clinical Services Manager (CSM), Care Delivery Facilitator (CDF) ADON, or Nursing Director.
  1. Every entry of Pre-scheduled overtime must be approved and initialed in advance by the CSM, CDF, ADON, or Director of Nursing.
  2. Un-scheduled overtime (call-ins) must be approved, initialed, and recorded on the "Staffing Changes Sheet" and Tour of Duty, by CDF, CSM, ADON, or Nursing Director.  Cancellation less than 24 hours may be considered an unapproved absence.
  1. Personnel will be paid for all hours worked, rounded to the nearest quarter hour (15 minutes). Time worked in excess of scheduled hours must be approved by the CSM, CDF, Nursing Director or ADON within 24 hours of the time worked.

 

  1. Employees working overtime are responsible to do the following:
  1. Notify the Care Delivery Facilitator and ADON (according to Unit Policy) before going off duty to ensure that the overtime hours worked are documented on the Staffing Changes Sheet.
  2. Any meal breaks not taken must have the approval by the CDF, CSM, ADON, or Nursing Director. A Leave or Clocking Exception Request Form or the Clocking Exception Log must be completed by the employee and signed by the CDF, CSM, ADON or Nursing Director.

OUTPATIENT:

Overtime is paid in accordance with UAMS Administrative Guide 4.2.01. Compensation or payment is made to employees for hours worked in excess of forty (40) hours a week.

  1. All OVERTIME requires approval by the Clinic Manager.

1.      Un-scheduled overtime must be pre-approved by the Clinic Manger.

  1. When submitting bi-weekly payroll, all overtime is considered approved if the Clinic Manager and/or designee has signed off the payroll.
  1. Employee working overtime are responsible to do the following:
  1. Clock in and out correctly to maintain record of overtime.
  2. Notify the manager and complete "Leave and Clocking Exception Request", or Clocking Exception Log if a meal break is not taken. Employees are not to use meal breaks to make up regular work time.
