All Inpatient and Outpatient nursing employees adhere to the Clinical Programs Unapproved Absences Policy HR2.02 and Kronos Policies.
Absenteeism is the failure of an employee to be at the assigned duty area when scheduled to work. Tardy is the failure of an employee to be at work at assigned time. Approved absence is an absence that has been pre-approved with the Director or the Clinical Services Manager with greater than 24 hours notice prior to the beginning of their scheduled shift. The Director or Clinical Services Manager will document reason for approval or non-approval. Unapproved absence is the failure of an employee to report for work at the proper time and place according to the posted work schedule, including scheduled classes. Excess of 4 unapproved absences during a floating twelve month period is cause for documented oral warning. Thereafter, additional unexcused absences may result in further disciplinary action. The employee's supervisor may elect not to discipline in which case documentation to justify this action must be kept on file. See Clinical Programs Policy for further information. When absenteeism is due to a short term (3 unpaid shifts) disability or illness, accrued vacation may be used for payroll purposes after sick leave is exhausted if pre-arrangement has been made with the employee's supervisor and the employee has been absent more than three (3) unpaid shifts. Accrued vacation coverage may begin on the fourth (4) day of absence. When absenteeism is due to an extended disability or illness, accrued vacation may be used for payroll purposes after sick leave is exhausted if pre-arrangement has been made with the employees supervisor. In maternity cases, sick leave does not have to be exhausted before vacation hours are applied to the employees leave request. A Clinical Services Manager, Director, Assistant Director of Nursing, or employees supervisor may request the employee to furnish satisfactory medical proof of the sickness or disability should the situation warrant such proof or during designated inclement weather periods. A physicians statement is mandatory on the third day of an unexcused absence, during designated inclement weather periods, and for all "call ins" after an employee has submitted a letter of resignation. Employees who "call in" on their scheduled weekend may be scheduled to make this up. This would be at the discretion of the Clinical Services Manager. The following process is to be used to "call-in": Any Inpatient Nursing employee who is sick or will not be working a scheduled shift is required to call in every day by the following times to be eligible for compensation: Day Shift/0630 Shift.........Call in by 0500 Evening Shift...................Call in by 1200 Night Shift........................Call in by 2000 7 P.M.
