SUBJECT: STAFF PREPARATION
  1. Orientation/staff preparation is accomplished in conjunction with the Hospital Staff Development program.
  2. Unit specific needs are accomplished through a RN preceptor program.  Competencies are validated by a preceptor. Competencies having a special emphasis are:
  1. Clinical competencies required for care of neurosurgical patients
  2. Basic principles of wound management, ability to assess wounds, and perform complex wound care, including use of wound vac
  3. Clinical competencies required for care of general surgical post-operative, and multi-system trauma patients
  4. Clinical competencies required for patients receiving patient controlled analgesia or epidural analgesia for pain management
  5. Clinical competencies required for post-operative patients with tracheostomies
  6. Certification to perform bedside blood glucose monitoring
  7. Clinical competencies required to obtain and administer blood and blood products
