| SUBJECT: SECTION J, REPLACEMENT OF SUPPLIES/EMERGENCY MEDICATION | |
Supplies, medication, and emergency equipment are inventoried and replaced as follows.
- Pyxis provides most medications after the physician order is activated in eChart.
- Pharmacy maintains levels of drugs in the Pyxis.
- Medications not available in pyxis are received from pharmacy by the tube system.
- Care Delivery Facilitators (CDF) are responsible to provide Clinical Services Manager (CSM) with a complete and signed discrepancy report at the end of each shift. All discrepancies are resolved before any nurse leaves their shift. Discrepancies that have an "unknown" reason are reported to the pharmacy and CSM or Assistant Director of Nursing.
- Nursing staff are responsible for counting narcotics per departmental policies.
- Pyxis receipts or patient summaries are used by RN when administering and documenting drugs. Either may be taken to the patients’ bedsides to promote safe drug administration.
- Pyxis receipts for PRN medications are to be kept by RN until evaluation of medications are documented.
- Pyxis receipts are to be disposed in confidential trash.
- Dinamapps and continuous pulseoximeters are cleaned after each use.
- Defibrillator and Doppler machines are checked on each shift. Missing supplies are obtained promptly. Malfunctioning equipment is sent to Clinical Engineering. Temporary replacement equipment is obtained.
