How is parity established between the traditional and nontraditional clerkships?
Parity in clerkships is established between the
two pathways (traditional and nontraditional) by several mechanisms.
The first is by establishing the same goals, objectives and competency
outcome expectations in both pathways.
The second is through the use of an evaluation instrument, utilizing the
same behaviorally anchored grading scale in both pathways.
Third, the same preceptors instruct and evaluate students in both
pathways. Preceptors must mentor traditional students in order to be eligible to mentor
nontraditional students. Preceptors hold nontraditional students to the same outcome
expectations as traditional students are held.
Fourth, nontraditional students can only take clerkship courses offered
to traditional students.
