Research Centers and Related Activities
Our faculty is committed to broad interdisciplinary
collaborative endeavors that foster research and science education. These
efforts have resulted in the development of two campus-wide research centers
that are based in the department.
-
The
Center for
Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience
serves as a centrally located resource for all neuroscientists at UAMS,
providing access to sophisticated equipment, trained technical staff,
and the research expertise of established investigators.
-
The
Center for Translational
Neuroscience
aims to facilitate and integrate research on translational aspects of
neuroscience across UAMS, basically bringing basic neuroscience findings
to the bedside.
In addition, several members of our faculty participate in the
Arkansas Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network (AR BRIN).
One of its goals is to expand biomedical research opportunities for
undergraduate faculty and students through collaborations with graduate
research institutions in Arkansas.
Also, our department is home to the
Partners in Health Sciences (PIHS)
program
that brings together biomedical researchers, educators, and community groups
in partnerships to create and disseminate programs that give K-12 students
and teachers and the general public a better understanding of life science.
Many of our faculty members are also active in the Arkansas Chapter
of the Society for Neuroscience and voluntarily participate in Brain
Awareness Week activities.
