MORE THAN A HOSPITAL

UAMS Medical Center is the patient care network of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. We combine the resources of University Hospital, Arkansas Cancer Research Center, Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute, Donald W. Reynolds Center on Aging and a number of associated outpatient clinics covering every medical specialty. Taken individually, each is an impressive health care facility and often the only such facility of its kind in Arkansas. Together, they offer world class care to the people of Arkansas.

As the state’s only academic medical center, UAMS Medical Center remains on the forefront of new medical procedures and technologies beneficial to all citizens of Arkansas.

UAMS Medical Center offers you so much:

• A hospital with the most advanced diagnostic and treatment equipment in the state
• A state-of-the-art emergency/trauma department,
• A neonatal intensive care unit,
• One of the nation's leading cancer treatment centers, which operates one of the largest bone marrow transplant programs in the world,
• One of only 20 free-standing ophthalmology research and treatment centers in the country,
• A world-renowned center for skull-base surgery,
• The state’s only primary care center for geriatrics,
• The state's only gamma knife radiosurgery center.

Truly International In Scope.
Although UAMS Medical Center is located in Pulaski County, we do not restrict our care to this area. Last year we treated Arkansans from all 75 counties and no one was turned away--regardless of their ability to pay.

In addition, we treated patients from 49 states plus Washington, D.C. and 23 foreign nations.

Recognized As One Of The Best.
The quality of care offered at UAMS Medical Center has not gone unnoticed either. in 2001, leading physicians across the country were polled by Best Doctors, Inc. and asked to name the physicians they considered the best in their field. This list was compiled and 239 Arkansas physicians were selected as "The Best Doctors in America." We’re proud that 137 of these "Best Doctors" are on the faculty at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

At the same time, U.S. News & World Report has listed our hospital among the best hospitals in America for nine years..

The UAMS Way
UAMS Medical Center aspires to provide the best medical care for our patients through medical practice, medical research and medical education. UAMS Medical Center is open to everyone. Thus, patients come from around the world to receive comprehensive medical care of the highest quality through a coordinated and integrated practice of medicine.

Because we are a teaching hospital, the knowledge and experience of many different specialties can quickly be applied to a patient’s problem. In addition, our research and educational programs inspire new ideas and methods that help improve patient care and are a unique and valuable part of the way UAMS doctors practice medicine.

We believe this system of healthcare creates better medicine for our patients.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
The patients you refer to the UAMS Medical Center will receive appropriate medical care regardless of race, handicap, color, religion, national origin or source of payment. Our goal is to listen when you request information and to see that you receive an appropriate and timely response.

You can expect privacy and confidentiality in all aspects of your patient’s care. Hospital records will be treated as confidential.

You can expect to know the name of the doctor responsible for your patient’s care, to talk with that doctor and to obtain necessary information. Your patients can expect to be informed of the course of treatment and to receive an explanation of any planned procedures or operations.

The UAMS Medical Center wants to ensure that your patients receive the best possible care. If you have any concerns about the care your patients receive, please let us know.

All correspondence will receive prompt and personal attention.
