Unfortunately the UAMS Mail Center does not handle Federal Express or UPS parcels. If you need help with a UPS or Federal Express package you can contact the UAMS Shipping and Receiving Dept (686-6028). If your package is allready prepared to be shipped out, there are drop boxes for both Federal Express and UPS currently located in the main lobby area of the Education Two building.

Q: There was a yellow piece of paper in our mail slot. What does it mean?

Notice

These notices are used to show when you have an item that either won't fit into the mail slot or that requires a signature. The notice slip should indicate the type of item received. These slips are also used if the mail slot becomes completely filled, the mail is transferred to a plastic tub and held in the staging area. If you receive one of these slips, present it to a Mail Processing employee and they will assist you in finding the item or items in question.

Q: What is the difference between Priority Mail and Express Mail?

Express Mail is the an overnight service provided by the US Postal Service. Express Mail is committed for overnight delivery to most destinations. For an Express mail package to be delivered by the next day it must be in the UAMS Mail Center by no later than 2:00 PM
Priority Mail provides two to three day service to most US destinations. International priority service is available providing five to seven day service to the reach the destination country.

Q: What is the difference between Certified, Registered and Insured Mail?

Certified Mail, for a small fee, provides the sender with a receipt at the time of mailing; a record of delivery is kept at the delivery post office. There is an additional fee for a return receipt that is mail back to the sender bearing the recipient's signature.
Registered Mail is the most secure service offered by the U.S. Postal Service. Through a system of receipts, the USPS monitors the movement of the mail piece from the point of acceptance by the USPS to delivery. The Sender receives a receipt at the time of mailing, and a delivery record is kept at the post office of address. This service also provides optional indemnity in case of loss or damage.
Insured Mail provides insurance against loss or damage for your mail at a very reasonable price. You may insure items up to $5000.00 and the cost depends on the value of the item.

Q: What exactly is Bulk Mail?

Standard Mail commonly referred to as Bulk Rate mail is a mail that has been prepared and distributed using a special third class rate. Your department can prepare your mail for bulk rate as indicated by our web page on Preparing Your Mail. Alternatively the Mail processing center offers a service where we can use direct address printing to prepare your mail for bulk mailing. For details on this service please see our page on Mail Services Offered.
The postage rates for Standard Mail vary, but for a non-profit organization, they are usually about half of the cost for first class mail of the same size and weight.
