Research Interests:
Dr. Buckner is a molecular biologist who has done research on HIV-1 gene expression and T-lymphocyte signaling. Her research project focuses on the molecular virology of cytomegalovirus infection of retinal pigment epithelium at the transcriptional level.
Her other interests include the regulatory role of the transcription factor, NF-kB in response to nicotine exposure in the retinal pigment epithelium and the role this expression may play in age-related macular degeneration. Other projects include the immune response of smokers and non-smokers exposed to nicotine and cytomegalovirus infection.
