Dr.
Pablo has been the interim chair of the department and is an
associate professor of anesthesiology. She also holds appointments
in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery of the college and at the
Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (VA), an affiliate of
UAMS.
E. Albert Reece, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., dean of the college,
commented, "I am delighted that Dr. Pablo has agreed to serve
as chair of the department. She will be an excellent academic
leader and an inspiring mentor to resident physicians who are
preparing to enter in this field."
Physicians in this department staff the operating rooms at three
major surgical centers as well as one-day surgery, labor and
delivery, a pain clinic, the laser center, and the pre-operative
center at UAMS Medical Center.
Dr.Pablo said, "Most patients see the anesthesiologist as
the physician-specialist who puts them to sleep just prior to
surgery. But I like to remind my patients,’ yes, but I’m also
the person who keeps you asleep through the ordeal and wakes you
up afterwards.’ Then they smile."
The department offers an accredited four-year residency program
with approximately 50 residents involved. Residents receive the
majority of their training in the operating rooms and gather
experience in sub-specialties located at UAMS Medical Center, the
VA, and Arkansas Children’s Hospital. They receive additional
training in pain management, the pre-operative center, laser
center, and obstetrics.
