UAMS Honors Alumnus, Wife for $500,000 Gift
LITTLE ROCK -- The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is honoring an alumnus of the College of Medicine and his late wife by naming scholarships for them.
The late Captain Charles Roy Moon, M.D., and Marjorie Sneed Moon bequeathed $500,000 to the college. Captain Moon was a
1926 graduate of the College of Medicine. He spent most of his career in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Mediterranean, the Pacific, at Pensacola, Fla., at Bremerton, Wash., and elsewhere. He and his widow, the late Marjorie Sneed Moon, lived in San Diego, Calif., following his retirement in 1961. He died in 1970 and she died in 2000,

leaving one-half of their
estate to UAMS for scholarships in the College of Medicine.
The college will award the first full-tuition Captain and Mrs. Charles Roy Moon Endowed Scholarship to Lolita V. Palmer, a junior medical student. Palmer is a native of Little Rock, a 1993 graduate of Hendrix College, and a lieutenant in the Arkansas Army National Guard, Medical Services Corps.
The Moons' gift will eventually support three full-tuition scholarships in the College of Medicine.
Dr. Moon was born in Murfreesboro, Ark. and spent much of his childhood in Nashville, Ark. Mrs. Moon was a native of Oklahoma City, Okla.
