E-mail Dialogues

On several Wednesdays during the course, one or two dialogue questions will be sent to the course listserv. You should respond to the dialogue questions via e-mail to your preceptors by the following Monday (or Tuesday if Monday is a state holiday). You should send your answers to both preceptors. One or both of your small group preceptors will read and respond to your answers.

This is essentially an e-mail conversation with your preceptors. This e-mail dialogue gives you the opportunity to reflect on a variety of clinical issues; particularly on feelings and emotions beyond the pure technical aspects of doctoring.

Reflection is a reasoned response in which learning experiences are linked with past experiences to form new understandings. Complex problem-solving in any profession requires the ability to self-reflect.

Experience + reflection = growth
John Dewey, Philosopher and Educator (1904)

The response from your preceptors offers you the opportunity to have a conversation with them on these issues. Your preceptors will consider your answers and participation in e-mail dialogues when they grade your performance in small group.
