Campus expansion
The west side of the UAMS campus will change significantly through 2008 with a campus expansion initiative that encompasses several expansion and renovation projects. The largest project will be a significant expansion of the UAMS Medical Center, which will include new patient rooms and space for other programs and services.
The hospital expansion will be built at the site of the old student dormitory, requiring it to be torn down and a new residence hall built at another location. A psychiatry facility will be built that will offer space for inpatient and outpatient care. A new parking deck and power plant will be built to support the hospital expansion and other additions.
Other campus expansion projects include a five-story addition to the Harvey and Bernice Jones Eye Institute, completed in April 2006, and a new facility for Positron Emission Tomography services, completed in March 2005. UAMS also will assist the state with construction of a new State Hospital west of campus. Planning for an expansion to the Arkansas Cancer Research Center has started.
