Programs » Requirements for Admission to Advanced Studies in Physiology and Biophysics
In addition to the documents and requirements for admission to the Graduate School of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, the
Department of Physiology and Biophysics requires the following for admission to the program for an advanced degree:
Students qualified for admission to Graduate School must meet the following minimum undergraduate course requirements: a year of chemistry, including organic chemistry, a year of college physics, and a year of zoology. A deficiency in any area can be defrayed by demonstrating advanced course work in other disciplines of science. Prospective students must present the following credentials: complete, official transcripts of undergraduate and graduate course work; official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) results, three letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with the applicant; and a statement of the applicant’s career goals and reasons for seeking a graduate degree. Although not mandatory, applicants are advised to take a GRE advanced test (usually either Biology or Chemistry).
All applicants for doctoral studies will be required to have completed a course in calculus and physical chemistry. These courses may be taken after admission to Graduate School, but cannot be taken for graduate credit.
