UAMS Consortium

Since 1995, members of the UAMS Consortium, an advisory council affiliated with the UAMS Foundation Fund Board, have served as ambassadors, advocates, liaisons, advisors and facilitators on behalf of UAMS.

They also work to increase community awareness of the fourfold mission of UAMS by building strong relationships between UAMS and the business community.

The Consortium is organized to support the charitable, educational and scientific mission of UAMS.  As a subsidiary of the UAMS Foundation Fund Board, it assists the board in developing UAMS as an academic medical center characterized by excellence in research, education and treatment, serving the health needs and promoting the well-being of the citizens of Arkansas, the nation and the world.  Members of the Consortium serve as ambassadors, advocates, liaisons, advisors, facilitators and fundraisers on behalf of UAMS with its external constituencies.

The four main objectives of the Consortium are to

  • facilitate a relationship between UAMS and the business community,
  • increase community awareness of the mission of UAMS: to “teach”, to “search,” to “serve,” and to “heal”,
  • develop informed leadership to be aware of healthcare issues and serve as an advocate for positively changing the state of healthcare in Arkansas,
  • raise funds for the use of benefit of UAMS and various projects supported by UAMS, through various public and social events.

The UAMS Consortium held its first fundraising event on May 30, 2002.  The dual purpose of the silent auction and cocktail reception was to develop relationships with future philanthropic leaders and raise money toward a $25,000 pledge for the UAMS Guesthouse and Cancer Support Center, now known as the UAMS Family Home.

After completing that pledge in 2004, the Consortium decided to include fundraising as a primary objective of the organization.
