The UAMS
College of Medicine Faculty Wellness Program
Launched
in March, 2006, the Faculty Wellness Program
supports the overall professional health of all
our faculty. Promoting the vitality and health
of faculty members forms the foundation for
creating a thriving institution.
The
service is directed by Gail Eisenhauer, MD, a psychiatrist with
interest in the overall well-being of health
care providers. She is also a child and
adolescent psychiatrist. She provides
confidential wellness consultations for College
of Medicine Faculty. Available services include
executive consultation/coaching, career
planning, negotiation tips, relational/interpersonal consultation, organizational
strategies as well as confidential mental health
consultations and referrals when indicated. In
addition, the service provides an emergency
contact for College of Medicine Faculty who are
in trouble or have a colleague in trouble.
To reach
the service during business hours, telephone
Candice Miller at (501) 364.6569. If a
faculty member would like to speak with Dr.
Eisenhauer directly, she may be reached using
her pager (501) 405.8199. For after hour
emergencies page the UAMS Department of
Psychiatry Faculty member on call (501)
686-7000. If you are mistakenly
connected with the Psychiatry Resident on-call,
you may speak with that individual or request to
speak with the Psychiatry Faculty member on
call.
Bottom line:
Physicians now are better off for seeking help
at the earliest signs of difficulty! In fact,
they should seek help long before an outside
source might advise them to do so. Physicians
pride themselves on being strong and self
reliant, but they often live under constant
stress and forgo fully enjoying their
professional or personal lives. This doesn't have to be the case. The UAMS College of
Medicine Faculty Wellness Program is here for
the explicit purpose of helping each individual
cope with challenging decisions, situations, and
times. This program is in place for the explicit
purpose of promoting the well-being of all our
faculty members so that they may thrive in all
areas of their lives.
