Promotion and Tenure
The Office of Faculty Affairs sends a welcome
letter, a web link and the current FIGS book to
all new faculty who are also invited to attend a
welcome and career planning hour with Dr. Shorey
and Ms. Cooper We are located in 4D40 (University Hospital). The promotion and tenure document, cover page, the academic diary,
academic career advice, and valuable tips for packet assembly are available at the bottom of this page.

From May to August, we offer one hour promotion and tenure workshops directed at rank and pathway. Members of the Promotion and Tenure Committee give advice and take questions about preparing for promotion and for tenure specific to your track. These session are open to all faculty and administrative personnel involved in the promotion and tenure process in a support capacity.

How to change your tenure pathway
Extending
the Probationary Period - During the
first six years of the probationary period, a
tenure-track faculty member may request, for
reasons set forth below, that the probationary
period be extended by one (1) year. The reasons
for such a request arethe same required under
the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 and are
as follows: (a) the birth of a child to the
faculty member or his spouse and its care during
the first year; (b) the adoption of a child by
the faculty member or placement in the faculty
member’s home of a foster child; (c) the care of
the faculty member’s spouse, child, or parent
with a serious health condition; (d) the serious
health condition of a family member.
Part time faculty are not on the tenure
pathway, but may be promoted.
