The University of
Arkansas for Medical Sciences Department of Emergency Medicine provides the
emergency medicine section of cyberounds on the internet at
www.cyberounds.com.
Faculty have also contributed to the
E-Medicine
online medical textbook website.
Through the
Area Health Education Center program, the Emergency Department has ready access
to the latest technology in telecommunications and videoconferencing. The
Department is actively involved in establishing telemedicine contacts with rural
hospitals in the state.
Classes for
advanced life support certification are taught by the Department of Emergency
Medicine each year. These are two day classes. Each course will be $200 per
participant for the regular course and $100 for the recertification course.
Course fees must be paid four weeks in advance by cash, check or
interdepartmental transfer. A textbook and study guide will be required as part
of the course. The balance of $100 is due no less than two weeks before course
date. Cancellations must be received in writing two weeks before the class to
receive a partial refund of $100; otherwise, no refunds are given. In this case,
applicants can reschedule the class for another time. Classes are
available during the months of December, February, March, April, June, August,
and October.
The
Arkansas Poison Control Center
is located on the UAMS campus in the College of Pharmacy. The medical director
of the Center, Dr. Henry Simmons, also acts as preceptor of the third year
resident's toxicology rotation. The telephone numbers for poison control are
