Research is an important face of advancing the practice of Emergency Medicine.  Our department offers the opportunity for both faculty and residents to participate in studies involving both clinical and health services research.  Funding for these studies is sought from diverse sources such as the National Institute of Health (NIH) and private foundations.  The results of these studies are published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Annals of Emergency Medicine, Academic Emergency Medicine, and The Journal of Emergency Medicine.  There are also opportunities to present the results at national conferences such as the annual meetings of the American College of Emergency Medicine and the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine.  One of the requirements for residents' graduation is the completion of a research project.  The department sponsors an annual Research Day where residents' projects are presented to faculty and fellow residents.  Each project is evaluated by a panel of scholars and an award is given for the one considered the best.
