As the state-wide referral center for high-risk obstetrical care, Women’s
Services include two in-patient units and two out patient clinics located
off campus at the Pulaski County Health Unit and the Freeway Medical Towers.
The E6 Perinatal unit consists of 28 private rooms and a small nursery that
is utilized for performing newborn procedures. Care is provided for normal
to high risk antepartum and post partum mothers and for late preterm to term
infants. Nursing education focuses on the parenting role, fostering optimum
mother-infant interaction and supportive teaching to the patient and family.
Labor & Delivery (E5)
Our new Labor and Delivery unit located in the Harry P. Ward Clinical Tower
consists of 14 LDR rooms, four
observation beds located in the triage area, two operating rooms, and a three bed recovery room. The hospital
provides care for and assists with delivering approximately
200-250 patients/month. The LDR rooms
allow the expectant mother to labor, deliver, and recover in the birthing
suites with family support. Post-delivery, parents are allowed the
opportunity to bond with their newborn. Two state of the art Neonatal
Stabilization rooms are located on the unit and are used to stabilize
acutely ill neonates with specially trained staff from the Intensive Care
Nursery.
Neonatal
Intensive Care Unit (NICU) F5/H5
F5/H5 is a 64 bed NICU with all private rooms
providing care for early high risk low birth weight infants including
acutely ill full term newborns. NICU is a Level III Nursery and provides
24/7 physician and nursing services. The latest research developmental and
technological care is combined with the expertise of our health care team.
The dedication of our NICU team allows us to provide Comfort, Hope and
Healing with our patients.
In each infant room, parent provisions include linen for a twin bed with
drawer space and sleeper chairs. An additional parent area provides a
shower, washer/dryer, and a kitchen space. Parent(s) living out of central
Arkansas can inquire daily about limited sleep arrangements.
NICU is part of the Maternal/Infant division which serves Arkansas citizens
as the only state of the art high risk delivery center for family centered
care. NICU has also implemented a (21) Angel Eye ‘webcams.’ These cameras
are placed over the baby’s isolette and allows for ‘real time’ viewing from
any computer over a secure network. These cameras also help to promote
bonding when the families are not able to visit the baby in the NICU in
addition to a one-way audio so the parent is also able to talk to the baby.
