Trauma & ED

Emergency Department (ED)

The newly renovated Emergency Department and Trauma Center provide emergency care to greater than 45,000 patients per year state-wide. Medical coverage is provided by faculty and residents of the Emergency Medicine Department. Nursing coverage is delivered by RNs who are supported by Emergency Department Technicians. Educational opportunities exist to obtain ACLS, PALS and TNCC certifications, and potentially instructor certifications in these courses. The Emergency Department is thriving to get 100% of our RNs CEN (certified Emergency Nurse) certified through the Emergency Nurses Association .

Observation Units (A2/B2) and Observation Unit (A7)

The Observation units comprise a total of 35 beds; 21 beds located on A2/B2 with 14 beds assigned to A7.  All beds provide care to patients meeting the 23 hour observation criteria.  A large majority of our patient population is adult surgical, post hysterectomy, breast biopsy and or mastectomies and penile implants.  In addition, frequently medical diagnosis such as chest pain, abdominal pain, and/or possible stroke.  Patients will either be discharge to home or be admitted to an inpatient status based on physician direction.  Orientation of staff includes observation criteria and documentation required to charge for observation status.

Progressive Care (F4)

This 30 bed unit provides multidisciplinary care with social worker and dietician involvement. Comprehensive care is provided to patients undergoing operative procedures specifically thoracic, peripheral vascular, urology, abdominal, colon and head and neck cancer surgeries. All patients are monitored at the bedside with telemetry assistance. We also monitor arterial lines, central lines and accommodate ventilators. ACLS and Dysrhythmia courses are required if no experience is involved. The unit is team driven and strives in providing the highest standards of care for our patient population.
