Residency Program

Conferences

Education remains the cornerstone of this residency program. Our residents have ample time for reading and learning. In addition, daily conferences are held for our residents. These conferences include traditional morning reports, subspecialty conferences, resident presentations and pathology conference. In addition, we have a weekly Board review conference designed to help prepare our residents for the ABIM certifying exam. As part of this preparation, all residents receive both MKSAP (Medical Knowledge Self Assessment Program) as well as Medstudy. MKSAP is a board review series produced by the American College of Physicians, and Mestudy is another popular board review series. These books are funded by the Department of Medicine and provided free of charge to all Internal Medicine and Med/Peds residents.

The chart below describes our various morning and noon conferences. Lunch is provided at most noon conferences.

Resident Conference

Morning report is an integral part of our curriculum. It has evolved to include the traditional resident case conferences (lead by the chief resident)  and "in-take," where new admissions from the night before, to now sub-specialty cases (ID, Endo, GI, etc.) and discussions from other specialties (Derm, Optho, Urology, etc.). At both UAMS and CAVHS, Wednesdays are intended for intern presentation of a single case.  Only interns attend this morning report.
