Emergencies and After
Hours Medical Questions
For after hours questions or emergencies, call the University Hospital operator at
686-7000 and ask for the family doctor on call. One of our physicians will be available to
discuss whether or not you need to come to the emergency room at the University Hospital.
If your emergency is life-threatening, dial 911.
Daytime Telephone Calls
If you call the Family Medical Center with a health question, our phone nurse will answer
your call. This nurse has been specially trained to handle your questions, and he or she
will consult directly with your physician for more difficult problems.
Confidentiality
Your medical record is strictly private. We will not give out information regarding your
condition to your employer, friends, or relatives without your permission. The only
exception to this is when required by law, as in industrial injuries, assaults, etc. If
you would like your medical record transferred to another clinic, you must first sign a
permission statement (called a release). With your permission, we can also request copies
of your medical record from other clinics.
Hospitalization/Specialty Care
When the need arises for hospitalization or specialty care, our physicians can make the
necessary referrals. This will be handled by the Family Medical Centers referral
coordinator. She can be reached by calling 686-6576.
