Tamim Antakli, M.D.

Tamim Antakli, M.D., is an Associate Professor of Surgery, the Chief of Adult Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and Program Director of the Thoracic Surgery Residency.

Dr. Antakli obtained his M.D. degree in 1983 from the University of Aleppo, Syria. His post-graduate education in surgery included a residency in General Surgery at the University of Aleppo, Syria; a second residency in General Surgery at the Methodist Hospital of New York, N.Y. and a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Arkansas. He was appointed to the faculty of UAMS in 1996.

Certified by the American Board of Surgery and American Board of Thoracic Surgery, Dr. Antakli’s practice includes diseases of the heart, lungs, esophagus, and other chest organs. He has special interest in heart valves and treatment of heart rhythm abnormalities as well as disease of the esophagus. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, American College of Chest Physicians, and a Member of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation, the American Heart Association and numerous cardiothoracic surgical societies.
