Policy and Management

The directors are responsible for the running and management of the Key Laboratory, with the assistance of the Scientific Council in the determination of researc orientation, approval of research projects and the evaluation of scientific research achievements. Professor Linfang Wang is currently the director and professors Yufei Shen and Boqin Qiang are the vice-director of the Laboratory. Professor Fangzhou Gu is Chairman, and professor Yunde Ho and Yufei Shen are vice-chairmem of the Council. Two thirds of the members of the Scientific Council are prominent scientists invited from outside the Laboratory. Under the policy of opening to the outside, the Council has already approved several external projects, and some outstanding scientists from abroad will be invited to form a Consultant Committee for promoting international scientific communication. Under the guideline of "open", flow and combine "proposed by the higher authorities in charge of the Lab, the Laboratory is open to guest scientists with mutual interests in medical molecular biology from China as well as from abroad. Guest scientists may bring their research grants along for independent research, or they may be a joint applicant with faculty members of Lab for funs from external sources. Lastly, a guest scientists may also join a research group as a fellow in the Lab. In order to further develop the research potential, the Lab is recruiting energetic promising young scientists interested in the frontier fields of medical molecular biology. A limited amount of annual subsidy can be provided with priority given to post-doctoral fellows and returned young scientists from abroad.

With leading scientists, excellent equipment, good working environment and favorable academic atmosphere, the Lab has attracted may good young scientists to pursue their advanced studies or engage in scientific research. Various symposia and training courses are held each year in the Lab, with invited speakers from the Lab and all over the world to present the latest achievements. The Lab is making great efforts to upgrade the research abilities of its scientists and fellows, to make the lab an advanced base for research and international scientific exchange in medical molecular biology by the end of the 20th century.
