Dr. T. Elaine Prewitt, conducts
research on nutrition intervention in chronic
diseases including obesity, hypertension and
diabetes. Her current research includes work
with the Lower Mississippi Delta Nutrition
Intervention Research Initiative (NIRI) in
Marvell, Arkansas, where she provides scientific
expertise and leadership in conducting research
targeting nutritionally responsive diseases,
using the community-based participatory research
(CBPR) approach. As part of the Marvell NIRI
she is conducting research to evaluate the
impact of evidenced-based eating patterns on
health outcomes in the Mississippi River Delta
of Arkansas. She is also a member of a research
team examining Internet Assisted Obesity
Treatment, for which she serves a central role
in adapting behavioral weight control
interventions and overseeing treatment delivery.
Dr. Prewitt also teaches a Nutrition Policy
Seminar course.
