Health Research Training Program (HRTP)

The deadline for the Health Research Training Program (HRTP) Summer 2008 internship session has been extended to March 3, 2008.  HRTP is the competitive internship program of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH).  The program offers internships in public health research, community outreach and education, fieldwork, and policy.  Students from both undergraduate and graduate programs in public health, social sciences, law, medicine, social work, public administration,  nursing and other disciplines are welcome and encouraged to apply.

HRTP was established in the 1960s to recruit and train the next generation of public health professionals by offering exceptional students hands-on experiences in public health programs at one of the largest, most dynamic local health departments in the United States. HRTP interns work on projects with experienced public health professionals, many of whom are recognized and well published experts in their fields of public health.  In addition, students attend weekly summer seminars, workshops, and seminars that give them the opportunity to learn about cutting edge research and programs that have made an impact on public health.

Most internships come with a small stipend, however, some are unpaid.  HRTP encourages students to also look for supplemental funding through their schools and grant opportunities through other institutions in this case.  Students are responsible for securing their own housing if coming from out of town for the summer.  Internships are from 10-12 weeks and based in New York City.
