John
B. Wayne, Ph.D., Professor of Health
Services Administration, has been a member
of the MHSA faculty since 1988. He teaches
in the areas of health economics and health
care finance.
Dr. Wayne's current research focuses on
improving the public health infrastructure,
evaluation of health services delivery, cost
containment, and the prevention of unhealthy
behaviors. Previous research was centered on
the economic impact of specific illnesses.
During his career Dr. Wayne has provided
extensive university, professional, and
public service. He helped plan the UAMS
College of Public health and served as the
interim-chair of the Health Policy and
Management Department during its formation.
He is currently the program director of the
DrPH in Public Health Leadership. His
professional activities include leadership
positions in the American Public Health
Association and the Association of
University Programs in Health Services
Administration.
Prior to joining the UALR faculty, Dr.
Wayne was a faculty member for eleven years
in the Department of Health Care
Organization and Policy, in the College of
Public Health, at the University of Alabama
at Birmingham. His academic preparation
includes an undergraduate degree in
Electrical Engineering and an MBA degree
from the University of Florida, and a
doctoral degree in administration of health
services from UAB.
