- MHSA - Master of Health
Service Administration
The Master of Health Services Administration (MHSA)
is a (51) credit hour program that prepares students
for careers as administrators. The curriculum is
structured in a developmental sequence, with each
semester’s work building on the previous courses. A
required summer experiential course provides real
world experience in a health care organization that
fits the student’s career path. The program assists
students in obtaining a one-year, post-degree
fellowship. The program is accredited by the
Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management
Education (CAHME) and is a full member of the
Association of University Programs in Health
Administration (AUPHA). Further information about

- DrPH - Doctor of Public
Health in Public Health Leadership
The Doctor of Public Health in Public Health
Leadership requires a minimum of sixty one (61)
hours and provides extensive training in the public
health sciences, public health practice, and
leadership skills necessary to respond to the
rapidly shifting, sometimes unanticipated challenges
of the public health and health care systems. The
focus of the DrPH program is in developing public
health leaders who can integrate public health
science into public health practice, apply models
and theories in public health to chronic and
emerging issues in practice, and demonstrate
leadership in working with public health teams.

- PhD in Health Systems -
Doctorate in Health Systems Research
The Ph.D. Program is designed for full-time study
and requires a minimum of seventy (70) semester
credit hours of study, which can be completed within
a three-year period. The program provides students
with the theoretical and methodological foundations
necessary to conduct creative and independent
research on health systems, with the ultimate goal
of identifying pathways to improved health system
performance through evidence-based policy and
management. The curriculum involves intensive and
focused study in the theoretical perspectives and
methodological strategies relevant to research on
the organization, financing, and delivery of health
services, including issues of quality,
accessibility, efficiency, and equity within systems

What are the requirments necessary for admission?

Do I have to have a GRE score for admission?

If I took, the GRE more than 5 years ago is it still valid?
No. You will be required to take it again.
What minimum TOEFL score is expected?

What are we looking for in a personal statement?
The 500-700 word statement should describe for the faculty why you are seeking a
specific degree, your career goals and objectives, and information about yourself
that describes previous work experience that leads you to seek this degree.
Does the department offer any financial aid?
Financial aid may be available from the University by
way of research assistantships, teaching assistantships
and placement of students with external sponsors.

Can I transfer credits from another University?
Transfer of credits from an accredited school will be
considered, but is not guaranteed. Generally up to six
(6) credit hours may be transferred from accredited
institutions of higher learning in the United States.
The MHSA program may allow up to nine (9) hours if the
credits are earned from a CAHME accredited program.
Transfer credits application will need to be reviewed by
the COPH Academic Standard Council.
Can I get my degree on-line?
Some courses are taught on-line, however the majority
are taught on campus. Currently, you can not obtain a
degree by on-line study.
Do you accept students in the Spring?
The MPH program admits students in the Fall and Spring.
The MHSA program also currently admits students in the
Fall and Spring. The DrPH and the PhD programs only
admit in the Fall.
When are classes offered?
The majority of Masters level classes meet from
5:30-8:30 pm Monday through Thursday nights. Some classes are taught in the

What is the cost per semester?
Tuition costs are currently $261
per credit hour for State residents and non-state residents pay $522 per
credit hour. Fees are $87.50 per semester. Books and supplies will be

How do I know what courses to register for?
You will be assigned a faculty advisor to guide your
selection of courses.
What about accreditation?
The College of Public Health is accredited by the Council on
Education for Public Health. The Health Services Administration Program is
accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management
Education (CAHME). The University is accredited by the Higher Learning
Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
