| I have just begun
a new position at the Fay W. Boozman College of
Public Health at the University of Arkansas and
at the Department of Health and Human Services
for the state of Arkansas as the Tobacco Control
Branch Chief. Previously I was the Head of the
Group for Tobacco and Cancer at the
International Agency for Research on Cancer in
Lyon, France. My background consists of training at Memorial Sloan Kettering in Surgical Oncology and the University of Toronto in Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery (U.S. Board Certified), and am also U.S. Board Certified in General Surgery. I then practiced clinical thoracic surgical oncology at Washington University (St. Louis, MO) and at Fox Chase Cancer Center (Philadelphia, PA). Subsequently, I was the Medical Director for Research and Development for Smoking Control at GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare. While at GSK, I was involved with global tobacco control issues. Part of my responsibilities included design and completion of phase I through IV trials, in addition to close collaboration with the marketing teams. In 2002-2003 I completed a Master in Public Administration at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. My continued academic interests involve the biologic initiation of tobacco related cancers, the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer, nicotine addiction particularly as it affects smoking cessation, the susceptibility of women to lung cancer and the global issues of tobacco control. |
