Tyrone
F. Borders, Ph.D. is Professor of Health Policy
and Management. Dr. Borders earned his Ph.D. in
Health Management and Policy, M.S. in
Epidemiology, and M.A. in Hospital and Health
Administration from The University of Iowa and
B.A. in Psychology (with Honors) from The
University of Kansas. His scholarly portfolio
focuses on the conduct and analysis of
population-based studies to identify subgroups
of persons at risk for poor health and problems
obtaining health services, with an emphasis on
rural populations. His research has been funded
by AHRQ, RWJF, and NIH and has culminated in
over 50 articles. Dr. Borders’ current research
focuses on the epidemiology of alcohol and drug
use and the accessibility of substance use
services in rural areas. He is PI of current
research grants from NIAAA and NIDA totaling
over $1.5 million. Dr. Borders serves as Editor
of The Journal of Rural Health, the
world’s foremost academic publication devoted to
rural health research. In 2007, he was inducted
as a Fellow into the American College of
Epidemiology.
