Tyrone
F. Borders, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of
Health Policy and Management and Epidemiology.
Dr. Borders earned his Ph.D. in Health
Management and Policy, M.S. in Epidemiology, and
M.A. in Hospital and Health Administration from
The University of Iowa and B.A. in Psychology
(with Honors) from The University of Kansas.
Prior to arriving at UAMS, he was Assistant
Professor and Chief of the Division of Health
Services Research at the Texas Tech University
School of Medicine. Dr. Borders’ scholarly
portfolio focuses on the conduct and analysis of
population-based surveys to identify subgroups
of persons at risk of poor health and problems
obtaining access to health services, with an
emphasis on rural and Hispanic populations. His
research has been funded by AHRQ, NIA, and the
CDC and has culminated in over 40 articles
published in prestigious journals including
Medical Care, Health Services Research, American
Journal of Public Health, Journal of Rural
Health, and Preventive Medicine. Dr.
Borders’ current research focuses on the
epidemiology of alcohol and drug use in rural
areas and the accessibility of substance abuse
