Summary:
I am a research technologist in the Dr. Ferguson's Lab. I graduated from San Francisco State University , where I earned a B.S. in Microbiology in 2004. I love to travel, work out, and eat. My job at UAMS is awesome!!!! I have the privilege of isolating the skin from human anatomical specimens. We use this skin to analyze pesticide residue transfer coefficients from Formica and Polypropylene surfaces. The experiments are done under controlled conditions in a mechanical chamber that has settings for humidity, temperature, contact time, and contact pressure. A RPHPLC is used to quantitatively analyze our results. Our lab methodologies are very innovating and state-of-the-art. We are looking forward to educating the world on the effects of dermal exposures in the home to various pesticides.

Summary:
UAMS, Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health, was my graduate school of preference because it offered a well-rounded and overall look at public health and prevention. The faculties that reside within this school are supportive, exciting, and innovative. They care about the community around them and work towards bettering Arkansas ' health. I am a second year graduate student working as a research assistant for Dr. Alesia Ferguson. I received my bachelor's degree from the University of Houston , majoring in Biology with minors in Chemistry and English.
Because of my interest in environmental health, I decided to work in Dr. Ferguson's lab. Our lab assesses surface residue transfer coefficients necessary for comprehension and quantification of dermal contact to pesticides within the home. Some of the pesticides being studied are chlorpyrifos and diazinon. I work on other projects for Dr. Ferguson, such as her project on ‘assessing the exposure of hairdressers to the toxic chemicals they work with”. I believe our department is strong in offering an enthusiastic work environment with methodical techniques. I am confident that this faculty provides the infrastructure where students of the COPH can grow, learn, and fulfill their academic goals and positive contributions to humanity.
