UAMS College of Pharmacy Student Scholarships
These
endowed scholarships were established with gifts from generous alumni and
friends of the College. Income from the funds is given annually to deserving
students, in awards of at least $1,000 each. For information on how to establish
a scholarship, which may be in memory or in honor of your family or a favorite
faculty member or loved one, please contact
Ann Turney, director of development.
Scholarships are given to currently enrolled students who complete a general
scholarship application form early each academic year. A Faculty Scholarship
Committee matches students to the scholarships, based upon the established
criteria. The deadline for applications is January 1, and all scholarships are
awarded at an Awards Convocation each April. For information regarding

Alumni Scholarship
Award
This scholarship is made available through the donations of the alumni of the
College of Pharmacy.
Arkansas Association of Health-System Pharmacists Endowed Scholarship
A scholarship awarded to a student with a demonstrated interest in
health-systems pharmacy. The recipient must exhibit a high level of service,
leadership and professionalism.
J.C. Baker and Family Endowed Scholarship in Pharmacy
This scholarship is endowed by the Baker Family of Arkansas to honor the members
of their family who are well-known for their significant and ongoing
contributions to the practice of pharmacy in the state. The student recipient is
selected on the basis of interest in community pharmacy.
Buice Drug Endowed Scholarship
A scholarship established through the generosity of the Honorable George
Wimberly to honor his business partner, the late Mr. James Worley Buice of Buice
Drug Store in Little Rock.
Gary Clark Family Scholarship
A scholarship providing assistance and encouragement to students who are making
academic progress with a preference for a student who has overcome adversity or
hardship to enter the College of Pharmacy.
Class of 1952 Endowed Scholarship
A scholarship endowed by members of the Class of 1952, the first graduating
class from the College of Pharmacy.
Class of 2003 Doug Eoff Memorial Scholarship
Established by a group of classmates in memory of their friend Doug Eoff, this
endowed scholarship is awarded to a student who plans to practice in retail or
any other area of pharmacy and whose academic experience is similar to his.
Emmanuel Scholarship
Endowed by generous gifts from pharmacists engaged in community and compounding
practices, the Emmanuel Scholarship benefits students who wish to pursue careers
with similar interests.
Karrol and Vicki Fowlkes Excellence in Community Pharmacy Endowed Scholarship
Established by Drs. Karrol and Vicki Fowlkes to foster an interest in community
pharmacy and to support independent pharmacy ownership, this scholarship is
presented to third year students based on letters of recommendation from
preceptors and a student essay detailing future goals for community practice.
Lester E. Hosto Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship honors the memory of Dr. Lester E. Hosto. The student recipient
is selected on the basis of interest in community practice, academic achievement
and leadership ability. Colleagues and friends from throughout the United States
have made it possible to endow this fund.
Kappa Psi Endowed Scholarship
A scholarship presented by the Gamma Omega chapter to a member of the fraternity
who has demonstrated leadership within both the College of Pharmacy and the
profession, involvement in College of Pharmacy organizations and leadership and
innovative activity within Kappa Psi.
The Wilma Knoll Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established to honor the memory of Mrs. Wilma Knoll of
Stuttgart, mother of long-time faculty member and graduate of the College of
Pharmacy, Dr. Richard Knoll. This scholarship is awarded to a third year student
with an interest in geriatrics and long term care.
Leonard Kremers Endowed Scholarship
A scholarship established to honor the memory of Leonard Kremers, a 1969
graduate of the College of Pharmacy. Following his death in 1991, family and
friends endowed this scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a student who
will contribute to the profession with the same zeal and compassion that Leonard
Kremers exhibited in his life.
Larkin Family Scholarship
Established by Dr. Keith ’96 Larkin, his wife Cindy Larkin, and their son Blake
of Fort Smith, this scholarship is awarded annually to a first year student from
the Arkansas Counties of Crawford, Franklin, Logan, Scott, or Sebastian, who
plans to enter community pharmacy, who has at least a 2.5 grade point average
and exhibited financial need.
Robert N. Manley and Robert H. Manley Endowed Scholarship
A scholarship awarded to a first year pharmacy student from Johnson, Pope or
Franklin counties with significant diversity of background and an interest in
community pharmacy practice.
Jack McCormack Endowed Scholarship
A scholarship endowed to honor the memory of Jack R. McCormack, Ph.D., professor
at the UAMS College of Pharmacy who was committed to educating students to be
caring and competent community pharmacists. This scholarship is awarded to a
third year student with an interest in community pharmacy.
The Jordin Scholarship
Donations by the alumni of the UAMS College of Pharmacy provide scholarships
honoring the late Dr. Marcus Jordin. Dr. Jordin taught at the College for
thirty-five years. In honor of his meritorious service to the College and to the
profession of pharmacy, students with outstanding scholastic achievement receive
this prestigious scholarship.
L. D. Milne Endowed Scholarship
A scholarship established by friends of the College to honor Dr. L.D. Milne,
Dean of the College of Pharmacy from 1977 to 2003.
National Pharmacists Association of Arkansas Endowed Scholarship
The National Pharmacists Association of Arkansas Endowed Scholarships are
awarded annually to students from historically under-represented minority
backgrounds who wish to pursue a career in pharmacy.
Phillips County Pharmacy Scholarship
The Phillips County Pharmacy Scholarship is awarded to a freshman pharmacy
student from Phillips County, based on recommendation of pharmacists in the
county, and upon financial need. It is made possible by gifts from alumni and
the Helena Health Foundation.
Rhea Family Freshman Incentive Award
An award established by Dr. Rhea and his friends and family to honor a member of
the first year class who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and ability.
The Neil and Clara Spain Endowed Scholarship
Awarded to a first, second or third year student to support his/her research in
medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics or pharmacology. Selection is based on high
scholastic achievement, letters of recommendation from College faculty and
personal interview.
John Swaim Endowed Scholarship
A scholarship established to honor the memory of John Swaim, a 1989 graduate of
the UAMS College of Pharmacy. His friends, classmates and co-workers at Baptist
Health Medical Center pharmacy endowed this scholarship in his memory. This
scholarship is presented to a third year student.
Pat Thomas Memorial Pharmacy Scholarship
An endowed fund established to memorialize Pat Thomas, class of ‘68, the
scholarship assists students who model the type of community pharmacy he
practiced and who plan to work in a community pharmacy setting.
Lloyd R. Thompson Endowed Scholarship
A scholarship honoring the memory of Dr. Lloyd R. Thompson, a faculty member for
many years at the College of Pharmacy. The student recipients are selected on
the basis of interest in community practice, academic achievement and leadership
ability. The generosity of the alumni and friends of the College of Pharmacy has
endowed this scholarship.
Nelson Voldeng Student Research Fellowship
Awarded to a first, second or third year student to support his/her research in
medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics or pharmacology. Selection is based on high
scholastic achievement, letters of recommendation from College faculty and
personal interview.
April Abston Williams Scholarship
A scholarship presented to a student in memory of April Abston Williams, a 1994
graduate of the UAMS College of Pharmacy.
Honorable George Wimberly Scholarship
A scholarship established to honor Dr. Wimberly’s seven decades of leadership
and service to our state and our profession. The recipient must be in good
academic standing, demonstrate leadership skills and have an interest in
community pharmacy.

Student Awards
In addition to
awarding income from endowed scholarships, the College is pleased that generous
Corporations and Foundations make possible these annual student awards, of at
least $1,000 each.
Cardinal Health
Nuclear Pharmacy Award Awarded to student(s) with an
interest in a Nuclear Pharmacy career, this award is based on leadership,
achievement and an interest in Nuclear Pharmacy.
Covidien Nuclear
Pharmacy Award Awarded to a student with an
interest in Nuclear Pharmacy
CVS/Caremark Award
An award presented to students in
good academic standing who desire to enter community pharmacy practice.
Excellence in
Pharmacy Informatics Award An award presented to a student
recognized for creative efforts in the use of computer technologies for the
enrichment of the profession of pharmacy.
The Kroger Award An award presented to deserving
pharmacy students with an interest in community pharmacy.
The Deepa Patel
Memorial Award This award honors the memory of
Deepa Patel is given to a pharmacy student from northeast Arkansas by the Dr.
D.V. Patel and Northeast Arkansas Clinic Charitable Foundation.
Pharmacists Mutual
Award This award is presented to a
second year student who desires to be a community practitioner.
USA Drug Pharmacy
Student Award This award is presented to third
year students with an interest in and experience working in a community
pharmacy.
Walgreen Student
Award This award is presented to third
year students demonstrating outstanding leadership, communication skills, and an
interest in providing pharmaceutical care.
Wal-Mart Pharmacy
Award This award is made to a second or
third year student with a high scholastic standing, strong leadership qualities
and a desire to enter community pharmacy practice.
Walgreen Diversity Award
An award recognizing a student who has made
significant efforts towards raising awareness about cultural competency and
diversity related matters impacting the pharmacy profession
