The White Coat Ceremony for the class of 2013 was held at Pulaski Academy in August. More than 650 family, alumni and friends attended the ceremony, sponsored by Walgreens.

| Faculty Briefs |
 New faculty members and residents were honored at a reception in August. Left to right are Snehalata Pawar, Dwight Davis, Renée DeHart, Ashley Stinnett, Jonell Hudson, Lois Coulter, Scott Kaufman and Jeremy Thomas.
Renée DeHart has been named a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and will be officially inducted at a ceremony Oct. 18 at its annual meeting in Anaheim, Calif. Fellow status is the highest honor the College can bestow on its members.
Sarah Frank is the APhA-ASP New Practitioner Member at-large, and will remain until the annual meeting in March.
Dean Gardner recently was guest speaker at the Southern Illinois College of Pharmacy's white coat ceremony. She was the guest of Jim Rankin '62 and his wife Darrell while in Illinois for the event.
Paul Gubbins has been elected president-elect of the Society of Infectious Disease Pharmacists.
Jonell Hudson has joined the faculty at the northwest Arkansas campus in a jointly funded position with the Arkansas Health Education Center. Her primary clinical site is the Northwest Family Medical Center in Springdale.
Scott Kaufman has joined the faculty at the northwest Arkansas campus in a jointly funded position with the Mercy Health System of Northwest Arkansas. His primary clinical site is Mercy Medical Center in Rogers.
Victoria Miller has joined the College as the e-learning educational technologist, working with Martha Carle to support the e-learning activities of the faculty and staff, and other initiatives for the northwest Arkansas campus.
Kathryn Neill has accepted the position as the College's hospital experiential director. She will recruit and develop sites, maintain a quality assurance plan for institutional experiences, and examine assessment and curricular outcomes.
Michael Shepherd has joined the faculty at the AHEC Southwest in Texarkana. Before joining the AHEC, he was a preceptor at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.
Jon Wolfe presented a lecture titled "The United States Constitution and Health Care" during UAMS's celebration of Constitution Day on September 17.
Daohong Zhou has accepted a position of professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Division of Radiation Health and will join the College in January. He comes from the University of South Carolina and is an internationally recognized expert in stem cell research. |
| SNPhA Speaker Offers Financial Advice |
Terrance Burroughs, Pharm.D. was the speaker at SNPhA's meeting on September 29. He is president of The Burroughs Management Group, Inc., a health care services firm serving the pharmaceutical industry, and his topic was "Finance Fundamentals for the Non-Financial Pharmacy Student."  As the College's first IPSF-sponsored exchange student, P3
Sharliese Kendrick (at right in photo) was in Ghana in June for nearly five weeks. She worked in the dispensaries and rounded with physicians and the clinical pharmacists at Achimota and Ridge Hospitals, where she earned hours for her Early Practice Experience education.

P4 Sarah Griffin has been chosen as an NCPA Foundation Partners in Pharmacy Scholarship recipient. She will receive a $2,000 scholarship and travel stipend to the NCPA Annual Meeting in October.
P3 Christy Agee was selected to receive the 2009 National Association of Nuclear Pharmacies Outstanding Nuclear Pharmacy Student Scholarship of $2,000, in its first year to be awarded.
 The College's
Kappa Epsilon chapter was named Chapter of the Year at the annual meeting in August. In the photo at left are P3s Megan Wilson and Pam West accepting the plaque.
P3 students Bryna McKenna and Kristina Ta were featured in the August 2 edition of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette article on the Diabetes Health and Wellness Expo in Springdale, done in conjunction with the American Diabetes Association.
The students of the SSHP received an official American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists-SSHP Recognition for 2009-2010 for promoting membership in local, state and national health-system organizations, stimulating interest in health-system pharmacy careers and encouraging career development and professionalism among students aspiring to careers in health-system pharmacy.
APhA-ASP raised more than $10,000 for the American Cancer Society in the spring, according to P2
Mallory Williams. They sold t-shirts, luminaries and refreshments at the Little Rock Relay for Life event, and held a "Best Legs" contest for faculty, won by Charles Born.

The UAMS satellite campus in Fayetteville received a $1 million grant from the Walmart Foundation, split between the College of Medicine and College of Pharmacy. The funds are being used to renovate the first floor of the former Washington Regional Medical Center hospital building into offices, conference space and classrooms, as well as a clinical skills training center for both colleges. Pictured at the ceremony are Jim von Gremp, University of Arkansas Board of Trustees, Peter Kohler, vice chancellor for Northwest Arkansas, Matt Cockrell of Walmart, Dean Gardner and Chancellor Wilson. The Walmart gift activated a $50,000 challenge grant made by Collier Drug, Inc. in northwest Arkansas that was designed to stimulate giving to the Pharmacy College at the satellite campus.
 A recent $5,000 gift from the Helena Health Foundation pushed the Phillips County Pharmacy Scholarship over its endowment goal of $30,000. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a freshman pharmacy student from Phillips County.
