Broad and
Multidisciplinary Announcements On occasion, broad cross-cutting funding
opportunities, of
interest to a wide range of investigators, are issued by
extramural sources.
Watch this space for such announcements.
The NCRR Shared Instrument Grant (SIG)
program solicits applications from groups of NIH-supported
investigators to purchase or upgrade commercially available
instruments that cost at least $100,000. The maximum award
is $500,000. Types of instruments supported include confocal and electron microscopes, biomedical imagers, mass
spectrometers, DNA sequencers, biosensors, cell sorters,
X-ray diffraction systems, and NMR spectrometers among
others. Application
Deadline: March 23, 2009
The grant program is sponsored
by the Emergency Medicine Foundation (EMF) and the Society
for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM). A maximum of $2,400
over three months is available for a medical student to
encourage research in emergency medicine. Application
Deadline is January 5, 2009

Careers
The
purpose of these supplements is to encourage individuals to re-enter
research careers within the missions of all the program areas of NIH.
This program will provide administrative supplements to existing NIH
research grants for the purpose of supporting full-time or part-time
research by these individuals in a program geared to bring their
existing research skills and knowledge up to date. Mechanism of Support.
You may submit an application(s) if you are the Principal Investigator,
at a domestic institution, who holds an active R01 (RL1), R10, R18, R22,
R24, R35, R37, R41, R42, R43, R44, DP1, DP2, P01 (PL1), P20, P30, P40,

U01 (Ul1), U10, U19, U41, U42, U54. Deadline varies
PhRMA
Foundation offers support in the form of Pre/Post Doctoral Fellowships,
Medical/Dental Fellowships, Sabbatical Fellowships, and Research Starter
Grants. The PhRMA areas of interest include: Clinical Pharmacology,
Informatics, and Health Outcomes Research. Application Deadline:
September 1, 2008
MRI is designed to increase access to
scientific and engineering equipment for research and research training
in our Nation's organizations of higher education, research museums, and
non-profit research organizations. The MRI program encourages the
development and acquisition of research instrumentation for shared
inter- and/or intra-organizational use and in concert with private
sector partners. This program assists in the acquisition/development of
major research instrumentation often too costly to fund through other
NSF programs. For proposals over $2 million, requests must be for the
acquisition of a single instrument. For proposals ≤ $2 million,
investigators may seek support for instrument development or acquisition
of a single instrument, a large system of instruments, or multiple
instruments sharing a common or specific research focus.
Application Deadline: Jan 22, 2009 (4th Thursday in January, annually
after)
