Overview of Applying for Financial Aid

1. File your 2007 Federal Income Tax Return.
    
2. File the Department of Education’s 2008-2009 FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID (FAFSA) if:

• you want to apply for any federal financial aid, such as Stafford loans or Primary Care Loans.
• you want to be considered for any of the College of Medicine’s need-based scholarships.

3. Complete Loan Entrance Counseling online at www.mappingyourfuture.org if you will be applying for any Stafford or Graduate PLUS loans, and have not previously completed your entrance counseling requirement with the UAMS College of Medicine.
    
4. Complete the following application forms, if applicable, and return to the Financial Aid Office by March 31:

• SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION for freshmen  or  
  SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION for upperclassmen—if you would like to apply for any of the College of Medicine’s institutional scholarships. We encourage all students to apply!
• STAFFORD LOAN PROCESSING SHEET—if you wish to apply for Subsidized and/or Unsubsidized Stafford loans.
• PRIMARY CARE LOAN INTEREST FORM—only if you are willing to commit to practicing primary care and are interested in a Primary Care Loan.
• RURAL PRACTICE APPLICATION—if you are an Arkansas resident and are interested in practicing primary care in rural Arkansas.
