Scholarships
In order to recruit and retain the best students for the future of healthcare in Arkansas, scholarships are more important than ever About 93 percent of our students depended on financial aid last year, and our graduates are weighed down by an ever-increasing debt burden.
Many of you have helped pave the way for these bright, young men and women.
Therefore, the COM has embarked on a major campaign to strengthen our Class Scholarship endowments. Along with our Alumni Advisory Board, the dean has established a goal of $250,000 per class. At this level, each class could fund a $10,000 annual scholarship. This, we believe, is the tipping point at which an outstanding student will choose to attend the College of Medicine and practice in Arkansas.
The students also raise significant General Scholarship funds through the annual phonathon during which they call alumni requesting a gift.
We honor those Named and Memorial Scholarships that were established by families and friends of physicians and other community leaders. Anyone can contribute to these endowments. It’s a wonderful way to honor namesakes while helping students.
