Neylon C. David, Jr., M.D. (Class of 1953)

APRIL 22, 2003 | Neylon C. David, M.D., 79, died April 14 in Brinkley, Arkansas.

The only child of the late Neylon C. and Lottie Mae Fawcett David, Dr. David was born in Beebe, Arkansas, on Aug. 10, 1923.

His family noted, "Dr. David loved his profession. He enjoyed taking care of his patients and in turn he was loved by them. An old-fashioned country doctor, he averaged 18-hour work days, made house calls and delivered on an average of 100 babies a year."

During his career, Dr. David was chief of staff at Mercy Hospital, a delegate to the Arkansas Medical Association for Monroe County, a charter fellow of the Academy of Family Physicians, and a member the American Medical Association, the Southern Medical Association, and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Associate Program. Dr. David was a delegate to the Monroe County Medical Society for 30 years. He received yearly appointments to the Monroe County Health Unit for 30 years. He was the local physician for the Monroe County Human Development Center and served on the center's Board of Directors. He assisted the Brinkley athletic department, giving free football and basketball physicals to the Brinkley Tigers and serving as the team's physician in the 1970s.

A dedicated citizen of Brinkley and Monroe County, he served on the Airport Commission; Brinkley Chamber of Commerce; and as a deputy sheriff. He was appointed to the Arkansas State Aeronautical Commission from 1969 to 1971 by Governor Winthrop Rockefeller. He also was a 32nd degree Mason and was an instrument-rated pilot.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gloria Dusek David of Brinkley; daughter Sandy David and Larry Miller of Little Rock; and daughter Vida David Bullock and husband Bob of Little Rock.
