The Office of Continuing Medical Education (OCME) headed by the Associate
Dean of CME serves the College of Medicine (COM) faculty by taking the primary
responsibility for maintaining the accreditation of the University of
Arkansas College of Medicine (UAMS COM) granted by the Accreditation Council
for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). This accreditation allows the
College of Medicine to certify educational activities for AMA PRA credit.
As
an ACCME accredited sponsor of CME for physicians, the University of
Arkansas College of Medicine through the Office of Continuing Medical
Education must ensure that all its sponsored CME activities meet the
ACCME's accreditation criteria for CME planning and design and follow the
ACCME's Standards for Commercial Support. The OCME will approve and
designate category 1 credit to educational activities that meet the specific
criteria. The OCME may also jointly sponsor activities for CME credit with
non-accredited health related organizations, medical associations or
societies when a COM faculty member is involved.
The OCME provides different levels of planning services from the very
basic to full service meeting planning and management. Depending on your
particular situation, you can contact the OCME and contract for whatever
services that your educational activity requires.
