The Blood Bank is divided into the following major areas:

1. The Transfusion Service is staffed 24 hours/day, 7 days/week for the work-up of routine and emergency requests for blood products and the performance of immunohematological tests. Technologists perform complex work-ups to resolve problems encountered in routine laboratory testing. This section also performs special procedures requested by physicians in consultation with the Blood Bank attending physician on call who advises clinicians about the results aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and transfusion therapy of patients.

2. The Intraoperative Blood Salvage Service is staffed from 7:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday or 24 hours for emergencies. To schedule, contact Transfusion Services at ext. 686-5867 or pager 395-8282.
