The Programs

Diagnostic Medical Sonography/Little Rock:
The College of Health Related Professions offers an Advanced Certificate and Bachelor of Science degree programs in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.  Admission to the Advanced Certificate (basic) program requires applicants to have completed a two-year allied health educational program that is patient-care related and be certified as a Registered Nurse, Nuclear Medicine Technologist, Radiologic Technologist, Respiratory Therapist, or Paramedic  In addition, applicants must complete the 17 semester credits (SC) of specified prerequisite courses.   The curriculum consists of 54 SC of specified course work offered over three (3) semesters and one (1) summer of full-time study. 

Admission to the Bachelor of Science program requires successful completion of 52 SC of specified prerequisite courses. Prior allied health educational program completion and/or certification is not required for admission to the Bachelor of Science degree program.  The professional curriculum for the program requires 72 SC of specified course work offered over four (4) semesters and one (1) summer of full-time study.

Diagnostic Medical Sonography/Fayetteville:
The Advanced Certificate and Bachelor of Science degree programs in Diagnostic Medical Sonography are offered in northwest Arkansas in conjunction with the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Northwest.  The prerequisite and professional components of this program are the same as those of the Little Rock program as described above.  For information contact:  Liz Bausinger; AHEC Northwest, 2907 E. Diagnostic Medical Sonography/Texarkana:

Career Ladder for Degree Completion:
The Division offers an online distance education career ladder opportunity for ARDMS-certified sonographers who want to pursue the Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. No additional clinical education is required, so the sonographer may continue to work at her/his job.  The individual is responsible for meeting all required clinical prerequisites for specific ARDMS examinations:  see  www.ARDMS.org .
