Program Description
The RRT-to-BS degree program is a BS degree completion program designed
to meet the needs of practicing professionals who are Registered
Respiratory Therapists (RRTs). It consists of 66 SC of BS degree course
requirements (completed at any regionally accredited
college/university), 18 SC of professional course requirements
(completed at UAMS) and 40 SC of ungraded professional course work
awarded upon completion of the other requirements in recognition of the
RRT credential.
The professional courses are offered online or by independent study,
thus providing much flexibility for employed therapists. Students are
required to come to the UAMS campus at least once during their course of
study. (Out-of –state students must pay non-resident tuition). The
online courses use Blackboard, an online course template that uses WIMBA
to provide “live” sessions with student-teacher interaction much like a
live classroom. Archived sessions are available when practitioner work
schedules prohibit attendance at a class.
No additional clinical experience is required. Instead, students are
required to complete a Capstone Project. This is a comprehensive
project designed to provide the RRT with new knowledge and skills in an
area of his/her interest. The capstone project may be a clinical
practicum, research project or scholarly activity. Upon completion of
the project, dissemination of project results at local, regional and/or
national venues is required.
