Capstone Project
The
goal of the capstone project is to refine the skills of inquiry and
written and oral communication and enhance the synthesis of concepts
related to either a practicum, or a research project, or a scholarly
activity.
RES-4258:
Capstone I is a planning course for the capstone project. In this
course, students will develop and obtain approval for their project. In
many cases this includes the development of a learning contract,
completion of a needs assessment, and/or development of a timeline for
project completion. The project may be a practicum, a research project
or a scholarly activity.
RES-4652:
Capstone II will require the
student to implement, evaluate, and disseminate the planned practicum;
or conduct a planned research project and prepare an abstract for
publication; or critically appraise and disseminate evidence-based
recommendations of a planned scholarly activity.
Students are encouraged to choose a capstone project that has potential
to enhance their career in respiratory care and that can be developed in
collaboration with the student’s direct supervisor and/or department
manager.
Students must enroll in RES-4652: Capstone II upon successful
completion of RES-4258: Capstone I. Because the capstone project is
not expected to be completed in one semester, a grade of IP (In
Progress) will ordinarily be given one time. The capstone project must
be completed within 18 months; failure to do so will result in a grade
of “F” and the course completion policy will apply. |
