Letter from the Chairman

Rebecca Ludwig,
Ph.D., R.T.(R)(QM)(ARRT)FAEIRS
Chairman & Associate Professor
Department of Imaging & Radiation Sciences
Welcome…
to the Radiologist Assistant [RA] program at the
University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences [UAMS]. Consistent with the
principles enunciated by our Chancellor, Dr. I. Dodd Wilson, we have
assembled a hard working and talented faculty and staff to create and
offer this program that delivers on both the academic and patient care
missions of our academic health center. This program, though relatively
new, has already begun to produce new health care professionals who
deliver standard-setting care that is improving the health of the
citizens of Arkansas and beyond. Our students learn in an environment
recognized for delivering quality education.
UAMS was founded in 1879
and remains the state’s only
comprehensive academic health center, with five colleges, a graduate
school, a medical center, six centers of excellence, and a statewide
network of regional centers. UAMS has
2,652
students and 733 medical residents. Its
centers of excellence include the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer
Institute, the Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute, the
Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy, the Harvey & Bernice Jones
Eye Institute, the Psychiatric Research Institute, and the Donald W.
Reynolds Institute on Aging. It is one of the state’s largest public
employers with about 10,700
employees, including over 1,700 physicians
who provide medical care to patients at UAMS, Arkansas Children’s
Hospital, the VA Medical Center and UAMS’ Area Health Education
Centers throughout the state. UAMS and its
affiliates have an economic impact in Arkansas of $5
billion a year.

Professions (CHRP). The RA program is recognized by the ARRT, and our
faculty members have many years of combined teaching experience in the
imaging professions. We enjoy helping professionals like you reach
their career goals. The Master of Imaging Sciences degree is awarded
to students upon successful completion of the RA and Nuclear Medicine
Advanced Associate (NMAA) programs.
All the information and forms you will need to apply to
the RA program are available online. Click on any item listed in red on
our “Application Process” Web page at
http://www.uams.edu/chrp/imaging/application.asp to access
downloadable documents.
You probably have a lot of questions about the program.
We realize that graduate students often have employment and family
obligations, so this program is designed to be as flexible and
“student-friendly” as possible. The “Frequently Asked Questions” section
of the Web pages should answer many of your questions. If you have
other issues or concerns, please contact us at
RA@uams.edu or at 501-686-7438. Not only would we be happy to
communicate with you, we would be delighted to have you visit us in
person. Let us know how we can be of assistance.
