Basic Medical Terminology

CONTINUING EDUCATION: 10 hours
SEMINAR DESCRIPTION:
Introduction to the language of medicine with emphasis placed on
terminology of all anatomical body systems, roots of words, suffixes and
prefixes. Study will also include word construction, medical
abbreviations, and the definition, spelling and pronunciation of medical
terms. Introduction will be made to reading medical reports, diagnostic
tests and procedures.
ABOUT THE CLASS: The class will meet for 2 hours for five
classes. Content will be taught through classroom exercises and practice
using the workbook as well as materials prepared by the instructor. A
pre-test and a post-test will be given to identify the student’s
progress.
INSTRUCTOR: Dr. Kathy Trawick, RHIA. She has been a contributing
author to the Medical Terminology textbook & instructor guide used in
this class. She is also the chairman of the HIM program at UAMS. She has
taught HIM for over 10 years and also was an HIM director for over 10
years.
COST / MATERIALS: The cost per person for the seminar is $140.
This includes all materials, including the workbook.
