The overview class is taught by the HIM program chairman and faculty.  She has been a member of the Arkansas Cancer Registry Association (ArCRA) since 1995 and has attended numerous annual meetings and workshops regarding cancer registry.
 

Course:

Staging and Classification (3 SC hrs)

Instructor:

Gwendylen Dykstra-Long, RHIT, CTR, MT, CMT 

The instruction of staging and oncology coding is taught by a Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) who is a graduate of the UAMS HIM program and a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).  She also holds the credentials of Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT).  Whendie is currently the program mangager of the cancer registry of the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System in Little Rock.

Epidemiology (3 SC hrs)

Instructor:

Catherine Hall Tapp, MPH 

Epidemiology is taught by Catherine Hall Tapp.  She holds a degree in Epidemiology and is employed by the Arkansas Department of Health and Human Services.  She has served the Arkansas Central Cancer Registry and the Arkansas Cancer Coalition for several years holding positions on the state registry board and coalition board as well.

The clinical instructors oversee the students in their directed practice rotations.  These sites offer the student a wide variety of registry experiences.  The clinical site instructor(s) work with the UAMS HIM Program chairman regarding each student placed at their site.
