During the 2012-2013
academic year, the College of Health Professions Dean’s Society will
fund projects in the areas of (1) Education Enhancement, (2) Research,
and (3) Service-Learning.
To encourage
interprofessional collaboration, project proposals by individuals from
different departments are preferred, especially if the departments are
in different UAMS colleges, other institutions, or community agencies.
Dean’s Society grants may be used to extend, complement, or supplement
funding from other sources.
To apply for a Dean’s
Society Project Grant, download and save the application form. Follow
the instructions on the application, being as specific and concise as
possible. Then, email the completed application to the email address
provided on the form.
The deadline for
applications is August 15. Grant recipients will be selected and
notified by September 1. Funded projects may be initiated immediately
after notification.

Education Enhancement – A total of $5000 is available to fund
innovations in teaching and learning. Grants may be used to enhance
teaching methods that will result in better learning outcomes for
students, e.g., use of active learning strategies, novel uses of
technology, activities that use student or community diversity as a
learning resource, self-paced learning modules, participatory methods
for planning instruction, etc. Grants are awarded for innovations in
particular courses or teaching/learning activities, not for overall
program development. Individual grants are limited to $3000.

Research – A total of
$5000 is available for mini-grants for research in basic, applied, or
translational sciences, education methods, or clinical care. Grants may
be used for a variety of projects including pilot or small scale
projects, secondary data analyses, single-subject studies, qualitative
studies, etc., that have potential to be expanded. Proposals may be
submitted by College of Health Professions (CHP) faculty, staff, or
students. Student projects must be sponsored by a CHP faculty or staff
member. Individual grants are limited to $5000.

Service-Learning – A
total of $5000 is available for service-learning projects designed and
implemented by CHP students, faculty, or staff. Student projects must
be sponsored by a CHP faculty or staff member. All projects must meet
the usual criteria for service-learning projects: participation by
members of the community, active learning experiences, data collection
and analysis, reflection, etc. In addition, projects should result in
sustainable activities or products. For more information about
