CHAIR, DEPARTMENT OF DENTAL HYGIENE

University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences
POSITION:
The chair of the Department of Dental Hygiene will
direct associate of science and baccalaureate programs
in dental hygiene designed to prepare students for
entry-level dental hygiene employment. The AS/BS program
annually enrolls a class of 37 (total enrollment of 74)
-- 32 students at the main campus in Little Rock, and 5
students at a distant site in Mountain Home, Arkansas.
The Department has 10.0 FTE faculty including 2
supervising dentists. The position will be available 2
January 2013. The appointment will be in the tenure
track.
QUALIFICATION:
Minimum qualifications include a master's degree in
dental hygiene, education, or an associated field (a
doctoral degree is preferred), a current license in
dental hygiene, and eligibility for Arkansas licensure
including a local anesthesia permit. A minimum of three
years dental hygiene practice experience, as well as a
minimum of three years of recent and relevant experience
in teaching, academic administration, and scholarly
activities at the college or university level is
required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The department chair is responsible for overall
leadership, development, organization, administration,
ongoing review, and general effectiveness of the
Department of Dental Hygiene, as assigned and delegated
by the dean of the College of Health Professions.
The primary responsibilities will be the
administration of the program, including but not limited
to curriculum development, faculty and student
recruitment, and faculty development; teaching; and
scholarly activities. Additional responsibilities
include university and college service as well as
directing the department's active continuing education
program.

SALARY AND RANK:
Salary and academic rank are commensurate with
qualifications and college promotion and tenure
criteria.

The University of Arkansas
for Medical Sciences is the academic health science

Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and the Graduate
School, comprise its academic components.
