Our NSSLHA Chapter

Founded in 1972, the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA) is the national organization for master's candidates and undergraduate students interestested in the study of normal and disordered human communication behavior. NSSLHA is the only official national student association recognized by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). NSSLHA membership has over 18,000 members and chapters in more than 285 colleges and universities.

The NSSLHA chapter at UALR/UAMS has been in existence since 1980, and currently has nearly 40 members. The 2011-2012 NSSLHA officers are:

Our NSSLHA chapter is a very active one that enjoys support from the faculty and administration. Members are routinely involved in activities such as: welcoming incoming graduate students with a luncheon, and assisting them with the registration process; fundraising to support attendance at local and national conventions; increasing awareness of our program and professions through university and community service; arranging for professionals to come to our campus to meet with students and share their professional expertise and experiences; maintaining a job bank for students and prospective employers; and last but not least, fostering social interaction among students, and between students and faculty.
